Ski Travel: Red River
Red River is a popular ski resort in New Mexico, often referred to as the ski town of the west. Located at 10,354 feet elevation and with a 1,601 foot vertical drop, it is a beautiful ski resort with plenty of trails to suit everybody, whatever their level of experience might be, and with enough trails for everyone to feel they have their fair share of the them too, so that you don't feel you are missing out because of your skiing expertise. When you ski travel to Red River, you can have lessons, either private or group, at the ski school, but even beginners will be assured that they will get to the slopes without any time wasted. There are also lessons for snowboarders, and ski equipment is available for hire.
The Red River ski resort has been popular for some number of years and shows every sign of continuing to be so. However this area does not experience a great deal of natural snowfall, so there is some 85% or more man made powder snow, which spreads over 247 acres and covering 58 trails.
If you do not ski and are not interested in learning, then there are all kinds of other activities here to entertain you, including horseback riding, hiking and biking, as well as abandoned gold mines which you can take a jeep tour to visit, camping and chairlifts.
For families with children there is child care available, known as the Little Buckaroos. All your child's needs are catered for here, including lunch, and you can leave your kids there while you ski and know they will be having fun too. With regard to accommodation, there is a variety to choose from, including inns, private condominiums, chalets and cabins, and between these there is a range of packages on offer to help those with a tight budget.
After a hard day's exercise out on the slopes you need some relaxation, so you can head for the game room in the center of the town, or go for a drink at one of the town's taverns. All the facilities are within walking distance, although there is a shuttle bus service available too.
Red River ski resort has a central reservation system to help you book your choice of accommodation. There are rates for snow passes which allow children to go free, and teenagers at reduced rates. With regard to eating, there are three restaurants to choose from, all with excellent food.
So all you need to do is decide on your dates and your budget, and make your bookings for an exciting ski travel destination. The rest is all there for you at Red River, a great choice of destination for the ski enthusiast and in fact the whole family.
